Jamie appoints Bobby Higgins factor. Lizzie Wemyss gives birth to a daughter. Lord John and Dottie sail to America. Claire meets Thomas Christie in Wilmington, and learns that he was the person who placed a notice of the Fraser's An echo in the bone fire in the Wilmington Gazette.

Review: An Echo in the Bone (Outlander #7) by Diana Gabaldon

The Teal is approached by a British naval cutter Pitt, and Ian and Jamie are to be pressed into service by Pitt's captain. The Pitt is attacked by a privateerand another sea battle between the privateer and the Teal occurs the same afternoon.

Claire Randall knows that the Americans will win, too, but not what the ultimate price may be. Jamie decides that in order to avoid meeting his illegitimate son William over the barrel of a gun in the war Jamie is on the American side, William the Britishhe will avoid the war by returning to Scotland to retrieve his printing press.

He would rather fight with words than with violence. I loved that they were back at Lallybroch. Roger struggles to find a place in the modern world, while An echo in the bone takes a job as an inspector of the North of Scotland Hydro Electric Board.

A mysterious visitor from the past causes a crisis in the family. Lord John is bisexual and has a long standing infatuation for Jamie. Truthfully I am not a Lord John fan. Lord John is an okay character, just not one of my favorite characters.

As I read the novel, Lord John grew on me. He has a great love for his family and is an honorable man. William in the fourth main character thread in this novel.

an echo in the bone Ian and Jenny are ecstatic that young Ian has returned; but Jenny is hostile an echo in the bone Claire who is unable to cure Ian. Jamie apologizes to Laoghaire his second wife for their separation. Laoghaire's daughter and Jamie's adopted daughter Joan requires Laoghaire to marry her lover, a crippled servant, so that she Joan can become a nun.

A letter from Laoghaire's daughter Marsali reveals that her son Henri-Christian is very ill. In this missive Marsali beseeches Claire's help in treating her son, Henri-Christian. Claire agrees to return to America to treat Henri-Christian stipulating that Laoghaire marry her lover, stop taking alimony from Jamie, and help Joan become a nun.

An Echo in the Bone

Claire receives a an echo in the bone from Jamie that Ian has died and Jenny has decided to leave Lallybroch. Word later arrives that Jamie has been lost at sea; and Claire is about to be arrested for being a spy, when Lord John insists on marrying Claire for her protection, as well as for the protection of Fergus, Marsali, and their children.

Arch tries to kill Rachel, but Ian fights him, until William kills Arch. Germain, whom readers might remember from Dragonfly in Amber. This mystery is never solved, and I suspect that it will play a role in the final book.

We do learn that Fergus — whom Jamie found living in a whorehouse and working as a pickpocket back in Dragonfly in Amber — is actually the son of the Comte de St.
